Duran Duran’s Girls on Film Uncensored

I decided it was time to fight the censors. Just because there are a few naked girls mud wrestling or pillow fighting with their tits out in a music video, I’m not sure it should be completely banned from television. If it wasn’t for MTV2 we may have never seen half of the sexier artisitc videos. Duran Duran were very successful in the 1980s and they caused a great deal of controversy with their video for the release of Girls on Film, especially as it involved a few sexual fetishes. I personally enjoy seeing nude women on my screen, but the video did also have an important mesage about the exploitation of models at the time, which didn’t reach a big audience because of the editing for mainstream TV.

Where the Wild Roses Grow

Perhaps the most beautiful music video ever produced. The song Where the Wild Rose Grow is an alt-rock song from writer Nick Cave who had fellow Australian Kylie Minogue singing on the track and appearing in the video. In the video, Minogue is playing Elisa Day who is admired by Nck’s character who then murders her. The general idea is that he wants to preserve her beauty rather than see it fade as she ages. After giving her a rose and asking if she wanted to see where the flower came from, he takes her to the river, kills her with a rock and then places here in the river, where the wild roses grow, in the pose of Millais’ painting Ophelia.

Eminem is TMF’s Most Wanted in the UK with We Made You

Why do we care? Because we have missed the cheeky white rapper and TMF (The Music Factory) is about the only music channel we get on terestial television in the UK. MTV actually bought them out years ago anyway.

Anyway, no surprise, really funny video taking the p*ss out of all the recent celebrity scandals and gossip. At one point he has a pretty nasty looking Amy Winehouse and am I mistaken in thinking the overly chubby lady at the start is a fake Jessica Simpson? Did I miss something State-side about her piling on the pounds or something?

Well watch it for yourself and enjoy at the TMF website. Sure he should probably try a different format, but this tried and tested humor is okay with me in these dark times.

Jonas Brothers Mania Has Hit the UK, help me!

OMG!#!#! I was hoping Britain could avoid these clean cut young men, but no it seems girls across the country are out in droves screaming out for some Jonas Brothers loving.

I can be rude, but they did take the high spots of number 2 and 7 on the most viewed YouTube vidoes of 2008 with Burnin’ Up and When You Look Me In The Eyes respecvtively, so they must be doing something right.

However, I refuse to watch the videos because the music would be Burnin’ my precious ears and I am sure it is more about catching a glimpes of the brothers and the artistic merit that they hit the top spots.

Oh did I forget to say why they are in the UK this month? Well they are promoting their new movie release Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. Right. Well if it does as well as the hit teen movie Camp Rock then I am sure they will be a happy boy band.

Britain’s Got Talent: Susan Boyle (Gone Viral)

Okay so it isn’t stricly a music video but then it is music and it is a video on YouTube :p So why is it here? Because it exceeded 100 million views and went viral within days of it being aired on television. For those who missed it, it was at the end of the first episode on Saturday 11 April in the UK. She is does not need to dream the dream! Live it Susan A truely inspiring and humbling performance sure to make Amanda cry. Not enough to make Simon Cowell stand and clap though but a lesson on not to pre-judge anyone by their appearance.

Soulja Boy Cranks up the viral load and gives swine flu a run for its money

Apparently the new definition for a video going viral is that it has had over 100 million views - ouch! As of 1 May 2009 Soulja Boy’s Crank That music video is the most viewed video online coming in with over 356 million people ‘reached’ according to visibilemeasures.com. That is a lot of hits, I wish my site had that many, then again maybe not, the bandwidth costs would be huge.

Love or hate the Placebo video for new single For What It’s Worth?

I personally love the new video, but then I am a Placebo fan. It’s nice to see things kept simple; we get to see the band looking as cool as ever. There is some flash imagary to provoke thought (as you can see in the article photograph). The single is taken from the album Battle For The Sun. Some are saying it is not Placebo at their best and although this is probably true, it has a nice beat to it.

The single is due for release in June.

Leona Lewis goes viral

It’s official, X Factor series 3 winner Leona Lewis, British singer and English rose has past the 100 million video views for Bleeding Love. Contracted to Simon Cowell’s Syco Music, Leona has risen up and up since hitting America where they are loving her. Bleeding Love is actually ehr second single, from the debut almbum Spirit. Lewis is the first British singer to top the charts in the USA with a debut album. Also checkout the Snow Patrol cover “Run” (studio version) which set record download numbers here in the UK.

Tobias Stretch’s Radiohead award-winning video

I love Tobias’ Radiohead In Rainbows video he entered in to the Aniboom Animation Competiton, called Weird Fishes. It so captures the feeling of the track perfectly; a brilliant video. Although I was slightly freaked out by it, the fish are scary. How a man comes up with the idea for this, God only knows. Then again Tobias is the new God of music video animation.

Avril’s video stole the show on You Tube, summer of 2007

In 2007 Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend video was number 2 in the most watched You Tube videos of all time. It was uploaded by RCA Records (who also managed Kelly Clarkson and Kings of Leon) early in 2007 and amassed over 50 million views in 5 months. Probably many more since. Sadly I can’t even link to the version on YouTube because I am in the UK and all the copyright rules are screwing everything up now. So I’ve embedded some (Spanish?) subtitled version from them as a nostalgic reminder of that great Avril video to cheer you up.

Coldplay’s Lost video as awesome as song

It is a dreamy thought-provoking video, so typical of Coldplay and the cinematography is fantastic.
